Musicians in Their Own Words: Cindy Blackman

As part of the public radio series Musicians in their Own Words, producer David Schulman brings us this audio portrait of jazz drummer Cindy Blackman.

Jazz fans know her as a disciple of legendary Miles Davis sideman Tony Williams. Rock fans recognize her as the longtime drummer in the band of guitarist Lenny Kravitz. After ten years with Kravitz, Blackman recently left the group to focus on her own music.
