A man from Troy, N.H. allegedly shot and killed his wife overnight Thursday before he was killed in an altercation with police on the Piscataqua Bridge. Authorities say the couple's 8-year old child was then found dead in the man's vehicle.
According to authorities, the man, who has not been identified, called 911 in York, Maine shortly after 2 a.m. and said he had killed his wife.
He was then located on the bridge, where authorities attempted to negotiate with him, according to Maine State Police Colonel Bill Ross.
The man then exited his vehicle, according to Ross, "and at that time he raised a firearm.”
A Maine State Trooper and two troopers from New Hampshire opened fire, killing the man, who then fell from the bridge.
His body was recovered by the Coast Guard.
Officers then located the couple's 8-year old child dead in the car.
Ross said that the child was not killed by the officers' use of deadly force, but did not say when or where the child was killed.
The I-95 bridge was closed in both directions for hours because of the investigation, and was re-opened shortly after 9 a.m.
