Business leaders are digesting the changes that will be introduced by the budget bill passed in special session by the General Assembly on Tuesday night.
The business community appears to come out of the session a winner. The bill includes changes to the unitary tax imposed by the original biennial budget passed in the spring.
It also alters the effect of rules on carrying forward net operating losses. Both were changes sought by General Electric and other major corporations which spoke out in an unprecedented intervention in the state budget process earlier this year.
Alexion Gets FDA Approval
Cheshire-based pharmaceutical firm Alexion has just received federal approval for a new drug to treat a rare disease.
Kanuma is a treatment for a fatal lipase deficiency in infants. It’s a drug that Alexion acquired when it bought a rival drug maker Synageva.
The Food and Drug Administration just gave its blessing to the treatment which will now go on sale in January. It's the third drug Alexion has launched onto the market, all high-priced treatments for rare conditions.
