Russian investigators have charged AlexeiNavalny with a new crime. Navalny is a Russian opposition leader with ties to Yale University.
The indictment alleges he and his brother engaged in money laundering and embezzlement involving a cosmetic company. They could face up to ten years in jail.
The latest charge comes only two weeks after a judge suspended Navalny’s five-year prison sentence in a separate conviction involving a timber firm that was seen by many in Russia and abroad as politically motivated. In September, Navalny won nearly 30 percent of the vote in a mayoral election in Moscow.
Navalny spent time in New Haven three years ago as a part of a special global leadership training program at Yale. There, he took courses and studied the American political system.
