Members of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which owns Foxwoods Resort Casino, have re-elected its chairman and treasurer.
Voters on Sunday chose Rodney Butler to serve a fifth consecutive term on the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Council and his third straight term as the council chairman.
Incumbent treasurer Jean Swift and Daniel Menihan were also elected to the council. Crystal Whipple, the council vice chairwoman, was not re-elected and was replaced by Councilor Fatima Dames.
The council governs the tribe and handles the management of the casino. The tribe is also pursuing a third casino in northern Connecticut in a partnership with its rival, The Mohegan Tribe, in hopes of competing with MGM's planned casino in Springfield, Mass.
The new terms will start in January.
