My name is Colin McEnroe and I can't skate -- ice or roller.
I don't really speak any foreign language all that well. I can't play guitar or piano and I'm fairly useless in a boat that's not a canoe or kayak. I'm pretty sure I can't split wood, and I don't know CPR, except from watching it on television. I don't know how to play most card games, especially poker. I've never smoked a cigarette, and I've often wondered, if I had to do in a play or something, whether I would be able to.
When you add all that up, I sound pretty incompetent. And maybe I am.
Nobody knows how to everything, but there are a few skills, acquired in childhood or teens that we seem to assume everybody can do. Ride a bike, drive a car and swim.
There are more people with at least one of those skill deficits than you might suppose. Today we're going to talk about those deficits and how people do or (don't address) them.
