Did you know that, up until 2010, 16-year-olds charged with most crimes in Connecticut were handled in the adult judicial system? And did you know that until yesterday, the same could be said for 17-year-olds? The changes were at the heart of what was calledthe "raise the age" effort -- and today we'll talk to lawmakers an legal experts about how the new law has played out.
And last week the U.S. Supreme Court said it wasunconstitutional to sentence juveniles to life in prisonwithout parole for murder. In a split decision, the court's majority said sentences like that were cruel and unusual.
Sometimes, young people commit terrible crimes. The question for today -- what's to be done with them when they do?
