An official memorial to the victims of the 9/11 attacks was created at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport in 2002. Now it’s a yearly tradition for families and loved ones of those lost in the attacks to gather at the memorial. On Thursday night, family members, first responders and Connecticut leaders gathered and laid white roses on the memorial and read the names of Connecticut’s lost.

For 20 years, artist Robert Carley has photographed images of the American flag painted on unusual objects. A collection of those photographs is on display at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury.

While President Joe Biden continues to commit to an August 31 deadline for a full withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, two United States senators from Connecticut are saying Biden should extend that deadline if it means saving lives. Democratic Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy addressed the ongoing Afghan evacuation crisis at the State Capitol Tuesday.
