Members of the state’s congressional delegation want to see the full details of audits conducted at Veterans Administration medical facilities, including clinics in Danbury, New London, Stamford, Waterbury, Willimantic and Winsted. U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Congressman John Larson appeared today with veterans at a VFW Post in East Hartford to discuss a letter they are sending to VA Secretary Eric Shinseki.
Starwood to Expand in Stamford
The Starwood Hotel group is planning to create 340 new jobs at its Stamford headquarters. This brings its total workforce in the city's Harbor Point to more than 1,300. The company received state aid to make that move, and it will receive a $5 million loan and $20 million dollars in tax credits to make the latest expansion.
State Attorney General Working to Prevent Data Breaches
State attorney general George Jepsen is working with other states to try and prevent data breaches like the ones that happened at eBay, Target, and Neiman Marcus. The online auction site eBay was hacked a few months ago. Jepsen says there should be a national solution to problems like this. His office is working with attorneys general in Illinois and Florida.
Connecticut Taxi Firms File Lawsuit
A group of taxi firms in Connecticut is suing two new ride-share companies, in a move to stop them from doing business in the state. Uber and Lyft are two online services that allow users to request a ride on their smartphone. Passengers can be picked up by any driver in the area who's also registered with the service. The drivers are not professionals, and the service is not regulated. Fifteen different cab and livery companies have filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Hartford .
Malloy Delivers Commencement at Alma Mater
Governor Malloy at his alma mater today. The first-term Democrat delivering a graduation speech at Boston College Law School’s commencement ceremony. Malloy graduated from the school in 1980. Malloy, who is seeking a second term, has made several appearances already at commencements. Earlier this month he made opening remarks at Southern Connecticut State University’s graduate commencement ceremony.
