When the topic of bullying makes it to the news, it’s usually because of a worst case scenario - an incident that ends in suicide. But many more cases happen every day in our schools and neighborhoods, and parents, teachers and legislators are trying to figure out how to stop it. In July of 2011, Connecticut’s legislature passed an anti-bullying bill, meant to “prevent bullying in our schools and to ensure every child the right to learn without fear of teasing, humiliation and assault.” A lot of times, when dealing with the issue of bullying - we don’t often hear the perspective of young people.
WNPR Senior Producer Catie Talarski heard first hand from teens when she helped produce a special called BULLIED: Teen stories from Generation PRX last winter. Catie will be speaking tonight as part of a Salon panel at the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center tonight at 5PM called “Bullied No More.”
