Connecticut residents continue cleaning up after this week’s winter storm. Two more storms may be on the way this weekend. Another low pressure system will move off the mid-Atlantic coast toward the northeast on Saturday, bringing more snow. The snow is expected to begin falling late tomorrow morning.
Governor Dannel Malloy has declared a state of emergency and is requesting federal assistance. He said today that 22 towns had contacted state officials to say they are in need of salt as the additional storms are headed toward Connecticut. He said the state is offering a relief package for all the towns in Connecticut facing a salt shortage.
Malloy Judicial Nominee Goes Before Legislative Panel
Gov. Malloy’s nominee for the Connecticut Supreme Court appeared before a legislative panel today in the first step of his latest confirmation process. Former Appellate Court Judge Richard Robinson already testified before the General Assembly’s Judiciary Committee in December.
USS Virginia Back in Groton
The USS Virginia and its crew of more than 130 sailors arrived Thursday at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. The 377-foot-long submarine called on ports in Norway, Scotland and England during its second overseas deployment.
Connecticut Lawmakers May Expand Bottle Bill
Connecticut lawmakers are once again considering an expansion of the state's bottle deposit bill, requiring consumers to redeem individual drink containers for teas, sports drinks and juices. The advocacy group Conn PIRG says many more beverages are now available in individual containers, which is creating more litter.
