U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal is calling on the Coast Guard to restrict the number of times it allows a railroad swing bridge over the Norwalk River to rotate open. In a letter to the Coast Guard, Blumenthal says the bridge failed 16 times in 271 openings during 2013. Governor Malloy held a “Crisis Summit” earlier today to discuss the problem.
Health Exchange Worker Comes Forward After Data Breach
Connecticut’s health insurance exchange says the owner of a backpack found on a Hartford street containing Social Security numbers and other data is an employee for a call center vendor and has been placed on administrative leave. The backpack contained four paper notepads with hand-written names, fewer than 200 Social Security numbers and the birthdates of about 400 people.
Delays Not a Problem for Connecticut VA
A newly released audit indicates lengthy wait times affecting Veterans Affairs facilities across the country are not prevalent in Connecticut. Data released today show 98 percent of about 49,000 appointments at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System’s West Haven campus were scheduled in 30 days or less.
Governor To Sign Birth Records Bill for Adoptees
Governor Dannel Malloy said he'll sign a bill that could allow adoptees access to their birth records. Under the proposal, anyone 18 or older would be able to request a copy of their original birth certificate if they were adopted after October 1 1983. That’s the date biological parents in Connecticut received a form saying their information could be shared with the children they were giving up.
Hartford Production Wins Tony Award
"A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder," originally a Hartford Stage production, received the award for best new musical during last night’s Tony Awards. The show edged out "Aladdin," "After Midnight," and "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" for the award.
