A former Central Connecticut State University student who triggered a campus lockdown and massive response by the SWAT team was set to be arraigned today in New Britain Superior Court on breach of peace and trespassing charges.
David Kyem, 21, wore a costume with a mask and BB handgun on campus November 4. Officials locked down the school for three hours. His case was continued to February 27.
Hartford Hospital Reports Hundreds Seen on Monday for Flu
Hartford Hospital said 376 patients were seen on Monday, erasing a daily record that goes back 15 years. Emergency room doctors are seeing an increase in cases not only of the flu, but of a gastrointestinal illness that has been affecting the region. According to the Department of Public Health, the state has had 1,000 confirmed flu cases this season, and one more flu-related death, bringing the total number for the season to three.
Access Health CT Enrollment Up
Officials with Access Health CT said it has so far enrolled 86,000 people in private health care plans and Medicaid since open enrollment began in October. Chief Executive Kevin Counihan said today the exchange is adding between 500 and 1,000 enrollees a day, and is on track for meeting or exceeding a goal of enrolling 100,000 people once open enrollment ends on March 31.
Budget Surplus Near $500 Million
The pace on Wall Street is setting records, pushing the state's projected budget surplus toward $500 million.The new numbers were released on Wednesday. This comes as the state's personal income tax is now estimated to generate more than $9 billion for the first time.
