McDonald's Workers Protest Over Wages; Lawmakers Call for Funding to Fight Heroin Addiction

Days after class-action lawsuits claimed McDonald’s Restaurants are deliberately and systematically stealing employees’ pay, workers and community leaders protested today in Hartford and New Haven. It was part of a nationwide series of actions in 40 cities calling on the fast-food giant to stop its illegal wage theft.

Connecticut's U.S. senators are calling for more federal money and other assistance to battle a growing heroin epidemic in the state and across the nation. U.S. Senator Chris Murphy says it’s time for the federal government to partner with local government and take action.

Chimp Attack Victim in Final Appeal 

The Stamford woman who was mauled by a friend's chimpanzee in 2009 is making a final appeal to legislators in her bid to sue the state for $150 million. Charla Nash made her plea in a 7-minute video that will be sent to members of the General Assembly's Judiciary Committee.

Scalia Delivers Address at U.S. Coast Guard Academy

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia delivered an address to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London this evening.  A dinner was held in his honor as part of a fellowship program that brings political, military and industry leaders to the academy.

Former House and Senate Candidate in Gubernatorial Bid

Former U.S. Senate candidate Lee Whitnum of Greenwich says she’s running for governor. Whitnum, 53, is seeking the Democratic nomination.  Whitnum ran unsuccessfully for the Senate seat vacated by Joseph Lieberman in 2012.
