Griffin Hospital Testing Patients for Infections; State Law Creates E-book Library System

Griffin Hospital in Derby says it has tested about 750 patients for hepatitis, HIV and other infections . This comes after an announcement last month that staff had been misusing insulin pens dating back to 2008.

New State E-books System Taking Effect In July

The State Library is now charged with creating and maintaining a new state platform to distribute electronic books to public library patrons in Connecticut. Work on the new system is slated to begin July 1 according to a bill that Governor Malloy signed into law on Tuesday.

Summit to Offer Information on Electric Boat Work 

Local manufacturers are being urged to consider offering their services to Electric Boat-- as the shipyard ramps up production within coming years. The U.S. Commerce Department is hosting a summit on June 16 to give Connecticut-based suppliers more information about qualifying to work for the sub builder.

DMV Road Initiative Underway This Week

The state Department of Motor Vehicles is inspecting commercial trucks and buses this week to ensure their road safety. Roadcheck 2014 is a three-day annual initiative that includes checking the brakes, tires, lights, determining whether a driver has exceeded the federal limits on the number of hours allowed for driving and driver fatigue.

New Britain Rock Cats Heading to Hartford

A deal is in place to move the New Britain Rock Cats minor league baseball team to Hartford. The deal includes a 25-year lease if the city builds a 10,000-seat stadium for the team. The Rock Cat’s current home seats just over 6,100 .
