Hartford Capitol On Alert For Protests Surrounding Inauguration

The FBI is warning of the possibility of armed protests in all state capitols across the country leading up to the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden. Planned protests are expected at state capitols beginning Saturday. However, there are no specific warnings for Connecticut. Regardless, a spokesman for the state Capitol police say they are monitoring the situation. Gov. Ned Lamont said state police are tracking social media, looking for credible threats of violence following the riots at the U.S. Capitol last week. Lamont's chief of staff Paul Mounds said they're taking extra precautions.

"There are security assessments that are being done on various state buildings as we speak," he told a press conference Monday. "The Governor is receiving daily security updates that will go all the way up to the inauguration, particularly with the inforamtio that we have seen not only from the FBI, but from sources monitored by the state police about actions that could happen potentially over the weekend."

Mounds said the Connecticut National Guard is on standby to go to D.C. if needed, but they haven’t yet been requested.
