Paul Pasqualoni was fired earlier today as the University of Connecticut's head football coach. Offensive coordinator T.J. Weist will serve as the interim head coach for the rest of the season.
In may ways, the writing was on the wall for Pasqualoni. After two lackluster seasons, the Huskies are off to an 0-4 start, including a loss to division 1-AA Towson.
On Saturday, the Huskies got blown out by Buffalo, 44-12, and in a statement Monday morning, UConn athletic director Warde Manuel announced the firing of Pasqualoni and offensive line coach George DeLeone.
Desmond Conner wrote about UConn football for The Hartford Courant. "Most people expected they'd go at least two and two," Conner said, "and to fall well short of that -- it's hard to argue that the move wasn't justified."
On Monday afternoon, UConn announced that the Huskies offensive coordinator T.J Weist will lead the team through the rest of the season. Conner said the first thing Weist needs to address is the poor performance of the offensive line. "Today UConn has the worst rushing attack in the country," said Conner. "You can go back just a few years and they had the best. What's happened there?"
The Huskies have a bye this week, giving interim coach Weist a precious extra week to make the adjustments necessary to salvage what has so far been a winless season.
