Former New York Gov. George Pataki says he is "very seriously" considering a run for the White House.

The 69-year-old Republican told the Daily News for a story published Tuesday the U.S. needs a president with the kind of executive experience he gained in his 12 years as governor.

Pataki says he plans to decide next year whether to seek the GOP nomination. He says he's traveled to states including New Hampshire to gauge the opinions of ordinary citizens.

Pataki was governor from 1995 to 2006 and was mentioned as a potential presidential contender in the 2008 and 2012 elections. Since leaving office he has launched a consulting firm and joined a New York City law firm.
