The company has been presented in the US and abroad by Danspace Project, Symphony Space, Works & Process at The Guggenheim Museum, Baryshnikov Arts Center, The Duke on 42nd Street, the Yale Repertory Theater, The Joyce Theater’s Altogether Different Series, Ailey Citigroup Theater, Internationale Tanzmesse (Germany), Dance Theater Workshop, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Central Park Summerstage, The World Trade Center, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Bagnolet Platform, l’Agora de la Danse (Canada). Along with traditional theaters, performance venues for Gibney Dance regularly include unusual spaces such as shelters, schools and public space. These site-specific works connect the company to audiences who may have little or no access to performing arts.
Gibney Dance is also well-recognized for its groundbreaking community action with survivors of domestic violence, youth-at-risk and people living with HIV/AIDS. In 2008, the company was named to the Vanity Fair Hall of Fame “because they not only make art but take action, bringing the wisdom they’ve acquired as dancers into the lives of women whose bodies house the memory of domestic violence.” To expand its artistic excellence and community action to the national and international levels, the company just launched its Community Action Residency Program.
