'Color Me Obsessed' ... Not Crazy

We all know what it's like to slip into the gravitational pull of a musical artist. You might have a few weeks where you just can't stand to listen to to anything else. In fact, the musical universe seems divided up exactly that way - Your Guys. And Everybody Else.

I go through that occasionally, these days, with The Hold Steady. Their lyrics, vocals, guitars are just aimed right into my brain, and anything else seems like it's playing way off in the distance. But what if that feeling didn't go away? Ever. Ever since I was a teenager, I've known people whose admiration and affection for certain artists was damn near a way of life. Ten or 20 concerts a year if possible and engagement with a network of other fans.

In 1975, maybe the artist was Jethro Tull.

Today, whoever it is, the digital revolution makes even more room for your single-minded rock passion.
