The town of Palmer, Massachusetts will hold a hand recount of its vote on a resort casino plan, but not until November 26. The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority had requested the recount after losing the poll November 5 by just 93 votes.
The authority was proposing a $1 billion plan for a rural resort casino in the town, but it needs the host community's agreement before it can bid for the western Massachusetts casino license, due to be awarded early next year. The full statement by Mohegan Sun and the Yes for Palmer Committee:
"We’re disappointed and surprised that the town has chosen to delay the recount a full three weeks after the Nov. 5 referendum, and two days before the busy Thanksgiving holiday. After such a close and emotional election, voters on both sides of the issue deserve a timely and accurate recount of all ballots."
