Pratt and Whitney says it's signed a deal to monitor engine data for customers of the Canadian plane maker Bombardier. It's the first major win for Pratt's data service, which it rolled out earlier this year.

The eFast system will be installed on PurePower geared turbofan engines, powering Bombardier's C Series aircraft. The service allows Pratt engineers to monitor performance parameters in real time for the life of the engine, making maintenance and fuel use more efficient.

Japanese Unit Sale for GE

General Electric's bid to slim down its banking business could see the company looking to its Asian operations next, according to The Wall Street Journal. The paper says the Japanese arm of GE Capital could be on the block soon in what's become a major reshaping of GE's portfolio.

The leasing and lending operation could be worth as much as $5 billion.

Business Climate Still Lagging

Connecticut seems to be making only slow progress in terms of its business image. Conning's State of the States ranking shows Connecticut down at 45th out of 50. That's up from 49th this time last year, but level with its ranking of six months ago.

The report, produced by the Hartford-based investment management firm, takes a look at a range of economic indicators including debt-per-capita, unemployment, the housing market and tax revenues. North Dakota sits at number one in Conning's list.
