Bradley Casino Talks Can Be Kept Confidential

A rendering produced for the Connecticut Airport Authority of one potential casino plan. The image was obtained and released by MGM International without the Authority's permission.

Casino giant MGM International won't get its wish for more details about negotiations for a potential casino at Bradley International Airport.

MGM had brought a Freedom of Information Act complaint, saying the Airport Authority should not be allowed to discuss the plan in closed executive session.

MGM is building a casino in Springfield, Massachusetts -- and the airport is just one possible site for a rival facility in Connecticut that's being planned by a partnership between the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribes.

Connecticut's Freedom of Information Commission said Wednesday the Airport Authority was within its rights to talk about the plan behind closed doors.

Amazon in Storrs

Internet giant Amazon now has a bricks-and-mortar store in Connecticut. The retailer officially opened its pick-up location in Storrs Center on Wednesday, catering to growing demand from UConn students who use Amazon to buy textbooks.

Students can order online and have their purchases shipped for free to the pick-up location. It addresses an issue that UConn faced last fall when its mailroom became jammed with Amazon packages. The Storrs location is one of only 12 Amazon pick-up stores in the nation.

State Investment in Tech Businesses on the Rise

Connecticut Innovations said its investment in state businesses rose significantly in the last fiscal year. CI, which is the state's venture capital arm invested $30.9 million, a boost from the $21.3 million put out in FY15.

The increase reflects a big bump in the amount invested in bioscience companies. Of that total amount, 68 percent went to bioscience-related endeavors, while the balance funded information technology and clean energy projects.
