Officials at Tweed New Haven Regional Airport have said that they are negotiating with a Missouri-based airlines which could create an airline link between southern Connecticut and Washington, D.C.
Airport authority Chairman John Picard and Executive Director Tim Larson have said that the airport is negotiating with Buzz Airways of Branson, Missouri, to run regular, scheduled charter service between New Haven and Dulles International Airport in Virginia outside Washington.
Buzz Air would run scheduled charter service, three round-trip flights daily to compete with Amtrak's Acela high-speed rail. The New Haven Register reported flights would average about $200 each way, a price point “similar to what people currently are paying to drive to Bradley” or New York, said Tom Reich, Tweed Director of Air Service Development.
The deal is not final, but New Haven and airport officials detailed plans to representatives of Yale University, Yale-New Haven Hospital, University of New Haven, Sikorsky Aircraft, and others.
Tweed has not had nonstop service beyond Philadelphia since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
