Republican PAC Airs TV Ad Slamming Malloy Tax Hike

YouTube
Grow Connecticut released an ad Tuesday criticizing Malloy's tax increases.

A Republican political action committee has launched a TV ad attacking Governor Dannel Malloy's tax policies.

Grow Connecticut, which received backing from the Republican Governors Association, released a video Tuesday quoting unidentified people criticizing Malloy for tax increases approved in 2011 by Malloy and the Democratic-led legislature.

Watch the ad below:

Mark Bergman, a spokesman for the Malloy campaign, said the governor balanced the budget without cutting spending on municipalities and schools, and said Foley will undo that. Malloy and lawmakers raised taxes on income and sales by $2.6 billion over two years to help cover a projected $3.3 billion budget deficit inherited from previous administrations.

The governor has said he will not approve additional tax increases. Republican challenger Tom Foley says in a separate online petition Malloy has "been anything but clear" about taxes.
