The Nose: Me and You and a Van Named Scooby

We don't usually talk politics  on The Nose, but that's OK, because Hillary Clinton isn't really talking politics (much) yet either. Instead, she's just trying to, you know, hang out with all 235 million voting age Americans at once. How does one do that? That's the kind of thing that interests the Nose. 

The Clinton campaign is crawling across the U.S., one caramello latte at a time, in a van named Scooby. We're trying to figure out what kind of cultural tripwires she's trying to kick. My current theory (for the next ten minutes) is "Seinfeld." It's a campaign about nothing (for now). It's so successfully a campaign about nothing that Clinton managed to make her visit to Chipotle into a durable week-long meme. Hate her?  You're talking about Chipotle. Mad at the press? You're talking about Chipotle. Maybe slightly more interested in Chipotle than in Clinton? You're talking about Chipotle. Writing the first draft of history and trying to figure out what's going on? You're talking about Chipotle. (It's pretty clear who the winner is here.) 

Who's not talking about Chipotle? Well, these guys. 

Our Nose panelists -- Jacques Lamarre, Theresa Cramer and Jim Chapdelaine -- are good at reading pop culture tea leaves.  Can they figure out what HRC is trying to tell us about herself? Of course, it all starts here. (Scroll down a bit.)

Who is she trying to be? Carmen Sandiego? Mary Tyler Moore? Mary Tyler Less? We'll try to figure it out by showtime.

We're not quite sure about the rest of the show. There's always shaming, right?

There's Goop-shaming Gwyneth. Or maybe defending her. There's shaming Britt McHenry for fat-shaming a towing company staffer. 

Oy.

We probably won't have time for it, but here is your moment of (commercially coopted in the worst possible way) zen.

Oh, how I wish we were back on the road again.
