A Middlefield company has been presented with the President's Award for Exports at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Cooper Atkins, which makes time, temperature, and humidity instruments, got the award for growing its exports by 36 percent in the last four years.

CEO Carol Wallace received the honor from U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker. Wallace said the family-owned business has been exporting for more than 30 years, but it's ramped up its efforts in recent years.

"A lot of our customers from the domestic food service market have moved internationally," Wallace told WNPR, "and have sustained excellent growth internationally, even as the domestic market has been stagnant. We followed them, as we have to provide the services and distribution for all of our customers. We've established distribution points in nearly every country in the world."

The award is the highest recognition a U.S. company can receive in the exporting field.
