Layoff notices continue to be issued to Connecticut state employees.
The Office of Policy and Management announced Monday that approximately 89 UConn Health Center employees received pink slips. The workers are part of the Department of Correction's inmate medical care program.
A spokeswoman for UConn Health Center says it expects only four or five permanent staff will ultimately be laid off. She says reduced hours and a reorganization of employees are expected to save $1 million.
A total of 351 layoff notices had been issued to Executive Branch employees as of Monday to help balance next fiscal year's approximate $20 billion budget, which is more than $900 million in deficit. The Judicial Branch announced last week that 126 employees are receiving notices.
More layoffs are expected.
