Then-candidate Donald Trump speaks in the lobby of Trump Tower on September 3, 2015.

For the first time in 167 days, President-elect Donald Trump held a press conference in New York City on Wednesday.

It came in the midst of a busy week in Washington. President Barack Obama delivered his farewell address in Chicago on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, several of his cabinet nominees are on Capitol Hill for confirmation hearings.

Trump's pick for secretary of state, Rex Tillerson faces the Senate Foreign Relations Wednesday morning. He faces a skeptical audience due in part to his ties with Russia and its President Vladamir Putin. Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy is on the committee and remained opposed to Tillerson's nomination after meeting with him on Monday.

Back in New York, Trump held what he declared on Twitter as a "general news conference."
