The Super Bowl Was A Super Letdown

Sponge Bob

It's not a stretch to say the best part of Sunday's Super Bowl LIII was SpongeBob's short, but sweet, appearance during the halftime show. Should it be a surprise that the game was boring, the halftime show was bland, and the ads were forgettable? The long shadow of Colin Kaepernick cast a cloud over this game and the NFL has yet to deal with the fallout.

Three years after Colin Kaepernick first knelt to protest the structural racism that tolerated the police shootings of unarmed black men, no NFL team has offered him a contract. Kaepernick filed a grievance last year against the NFL.

In 2018, the league chose to enact a policy that would fine players who knelt in solidarity with Kaepernick, later reversing it after widespread criticism threatened their bottom line.

This year, several performers reportedly turned down an invitation to perform at the big game's halftime show, with people from around the country flooding social media with support for #ImwithKap

At least Sponge Bob brought a ray light to this dim event -- even if for a moment.

We'll save time for your calls.
