For 14 years, Mark Crino, Evan Green, Andy Chatfield, and Eric DellaVecchia have been performing under the name Stanley Maxwell. They’re a Connecticut-based quartet with a jazz-meets-rock-meets-funk sound that’s bound to get you dancing.

Last week, the ensemble appeared on WNPR’s Where We Live to share some of the music that’s brought them together for all these years. Included in their performance was a song called “Mousetrap”, an award-winning tune composed by Stanley Maxwell keyboardist Evan Green.

“At the time I wrote the song, I was really interested in some of the organicism of someone like Thelonious Monk,” Green said. “Where he takes this cell -- and I’m thinking of some classical composers, too, who do the same thing -- just take a cell and find a way to develop it, and turn it into something that organically grows into a piece of music.”

In 2007, “Mousetrap” was named winner in the “Best Jazz Song" category of the 7th Annual Independent Music Awards. It has since been featured on the quartet’s debut album, Don’t Wake The Baby!
