Connecticut’s labor market rebounded in March, adding 4,000 jobs. That came after a weak February where the state lost 2,900 positions.
Construction and financial services were the only sectors that failed to add to the workforce in March.
Connecticut has now added more than 27,000 jobs over the last 12 months. But the state still hasn’t reached the employment levels it saw before the great recession, and it lags the nation in the pace of its recovery.
Gaming Bill Out of Committee
More gaming in Connecticut took a step closer as a bill that would allow three additional casinos in the state cleared a key committee.
It now goes to the full Senate, after being endorsed by the planning and development committee.
The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribes want to collaborate on a new convenience gaming site in the north of the state near the Massachusetts border, as a way to divert Connecticut residents away from the planned new Springfield casino being constructed by MGM International.
Gas Price Hike
You know summer’s on its way when the numbers on the gas pump start to turn a little faster — the price of a gallon of gas in Connecticut rose by 13 cents in just a week, according to the latest AAA report.
The state average is now $2.60. We’re not alone -- Connecticut is one of 36 states that saw a more than five-cent hike. But you can console yourself by remembering back to last April. Gas this time last year was $1.21 a gallon more expensive.
