In our first live broadcast from Connecticut Public Radio’s studio at Gateway Community College, Where We Live sits down with New Haven’s Police Chief Anthony Campbell.
Campbell grew up in New York City, and came to Connecticut to study at Yale. He later would work as a beat cop for the New Haven Police Department. Last June, he was appointed chief after nearly two decades on the force.
This hour we talk to Campbell about his vision for policing the Elm City.
New Haven has been held up nationally as a model for community policing. How does the department approach building trust with the city while unarmed people of color continue to be victims of police shootings throughout the country?
And police officers deal directly with the consequences of gun violence. What role should law enforcement play in the current national debate on guns?
