Summer is winding down (at least, the fun part of summer) as students get ready to head back to school. In New Haven, some just found out they'll be going to a different school than they originally thought. About 30 miles away in Westport, residents are cheering on their boys playing in the Little League World Series.

CLASSES ELIMINATED AT TWO NEW HAVEN MIDDLE SCHOOLS
Move comes two weeks before the start of the school year.
New Haven Superintendent Garth Harries has eliminated grades 6-8 from the MicroSociety Magnet School and grades 7-8 from Lincoln-Bassett School. Those grades had very low enrollment - as low as 12 students in one 8th grade. Harries says the district will save $600,000 in teacher salaries by transferring those teachers affected to other schools, instead of making new hires.

IMPACT OF AFFORDABLE CARE ACT DELAY 'OVERBLOWN'
Hard to know how many insurance plans in CT will be affected.
Earlier this week, the NY Times reported on a document the U.S. Department of Labor released in February. Conservative radio hosts criticized the report that some consumer protections would be delayed. Access Health CT CEO Kevin Counihan takes issue with that criticism and says this delay will only impact a small group of people.

HARTFORD SCHOOL BEING INVESTIGATED FOR CHEATING
State is looking into "irregularities" on CMT scores at Betances Elementary School
The State Department of Education retained a law firm to investigate the latest Connecticut Mastery Test results from Betances Elementary School. In a statement, Superintendent Christina Kishimoto and Matthew Poland, Chairman of the Hartford Board of Education said they "have requested and are totally committed to a full and swift investigation and to holding any responsible individual(s) accountable."

MALLOY MAKES ENDORSEMENT IN NEW HAVEN RACE
Toni Harp receives Gov. Malloy's endorsement at a rally last night.
State Senator Toni Harp picked up another big endorsement - perhaps the biggest one yet. Governor Dannel Malloy stepped into the race for New Haven mayor by throwing his support behind her. Votes in the four-way Democratic primary will be cast on September 10.

Westport wins its opening game in the Little League World Series.
Westport Little League rallied back from a 2-1 deficit to win its opening game in South Williamsport, PA against Nashville, TN. The boys of summer now face the team from Sammamish, WA on Sunday.
