Speaking before the U.S. Senate last week, Republican Senator Marco Rubio continued to push for sanctions against Venezuela, where violent protests over inflation, criminal violence, and food shortages have claimed 39 lives since January.
So far, the Obama administration has been hesitant to impose sanctions -- concerned about any repercussions they might have on Venezuela’s already-fragile economy. Still, some believe they may be the best answer to the country’s growing unrest and rising death tolls.
