Meet The Candidates: Mark Boughton

Mark Boughton is no stranger to Connecticut politics. He has been the mayor of Danbury since 2002, and also waded into the governor’s race the past two election cycles. This time, Boughton is coming into the race with the GOP party endorsement, though he’ll be on a crowded ballot with four other Republican hopefuls.

This hour, we sit down with Republican Mark Boughton.  What is his vision for Connecticut’s future?

We also check in with two local political experts and get their take.

CT Mirror: Boughton sketches path to CT income tax repeal (July 2018)- “Boughton, who’s been pledging for months to phase out the income tax over 10 years, now says that will start right away — even though his proposed relief would significantly worsen an already daunting $4.6 billion-plus deficit in the first biennial budget after the election.”

CTNewsJunkie: In Sanctuary City, Republican Gubernatorial Hopefuls Bash Sanctuary Cities (June 2018) - “Boughton stated clearly onstage that he opposes sanctuary policies. He argued that Connecticut should not seek to “undermine federal law,” which governs immigration policy. He also emphasized that “I understand both sides of this issue,” and “understand the human part” of why people in cities like New Haven support sanctuary policies. He noted that under the TRUST Act, Connecticut itself is a “sanctuary state.”
