"The postal service is not a federal agency. It does not cost taxpayers a dollar. It loses money only because Congress mandates that it do so. What it is is a miracle of high technology and human touch. It's what binds us together as a country." So begins Jesse Lichtenstein's piece in last month's Esquire. There's news of discontinuing Saturday service, of suspended service during the snow—there's seemingly always news of postage hikes. But do we look at the postal service the wrong way? Lichtenstein joins us for the hour.
