Anthem announced that customers will be able to sign up for credit monitoring services starting Friday.

Responding to a letter sent Tuesday by Connecticut’s attorney general, the health insurer said anyone who had a health plan with them in the last ten years will be allowed to access the protection.

The offer follows a massive data breach involving over a million people in the state and 80 million nationwide.

Anthem will begin sending out letters next week to those directly affected by the cyber hack to let them know that their information was compromised. The company has hired an outside contractor that will offer credit monitoring services for a period of two years to any current or previous customer. Anyone who finds they are the victim of identity theft will be offered insurance and identity repair services.

Attorney General George Jepsen is urging Anthem customers to sign up for the service without waiting for notification, saying every day that goes by since the information was hacked puts them more at risk of identity theft.
