Xerox to Stay in Connecticut With State Deal

Xerox Corporation

Xerox has announced it will keep its headquarters in Connecticut, after it splits off its document management arm into a separate company. The state will give Xerox a $4.4 million low-interest loan to retain its 150 workers in Norwalk. The company said it may also add between 20 and 40 jobs over four years.

The office services portion of the company, which will be called Conduent, has already chosen New Jersey to site its headquarters.

Navy Boosts Submarine Projections

The Navy said it may need more Virginia-class submarines than it previously projected. The service just issued its updated Force Structure Assessment and instead of the previous estimate of 48 Virginia-class boats, it's boosting its potential needs to 66.

Groton shipyard Electric Boat is already producing two subs each year. If the new needs assessment is funded by Congress, that could potentially be increased to three.

First Marijuana Study in State

Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford is to undertake a study of the efficacy of medical marijuana. The state Department of Consumer Protection just authorized the research, after issuing a call for proposals earlier this fall.

Saint Francis said it will look into the use of marijuana in patients with multiple rib fractures.

DCP said it expects to greenlight more studies in coming months as research efforts in the state ramp up.
