Plymouth School Superintendent Resigns Amid Spending Probe

Plymouth officials have accepted the resignation of the town's school superintendent, and agreed to pay her $70,000 in severance, as she faces allegations of stealing public funds in her previous job leading Hebron schools. 

Plymouth's Board of Education voted Thursday night to accept Eleanor Cruz's resignation. She had been on paid suspension while the school board considered whether to fire her.

Cruz, 63, was arrested on a felony larceny charge on August 7. Authorities allege she stole about $15,000 from the town of Hebron by misusing district credit cards for personal expenses and misappropriating other funds.

Cruz's lawyer has said Cruz didn't have any criminal intent, and characterized the issue as a misinterpretation of language on expenses in her Hebron contract.

The Plymouth board is searching for a new superintendent.
