Moose Sightings in Connecticut Prompt Warning

Paul J. Fusco
/
CT DEEP

Seen a moose lately? Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection wants to know if you have -- and to let you know to be on the lookout while you're driving, as well. If you spot a moose, you can call (860) 642-7239 between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, or use this handy online moose sighting report form.

Recent moose sightings in New Milford, Farmington, and East Haddam, according to the Associated Press, have prompted DEEP to warn residents about keeping their distance from the ordinarily shy animals. When a moose wanders into someone's back yard or the town green, it's not always clear what it will do next.

The moose population appears to be growing in Connecticut. While it's a bit outdated, DEEP provides a map showing the most common locations for sightings. Moose can tend to travel long distances, especially during the fall, because it's breeding season.
