Malloy Attends Governors' Conference; State House GOP Leader Steps Down

Governor Dannel Malloy is in Washington, D.C. for meetings with President Barack Obama and governors from across the country. Malloy and a group of fellow Democratic governors met with the president today. Malloy is scheduled to participate in the winter meeting of the National Governors Association over the weekend.

State House GOP Leader Steps Down

State House Republicans' chief of staff George Gallo resigned on Thursday. This comes following a federal investigation into whether republican legislative candidates were improperly directed to use a Florida direct-mail and printing company. Records show the company Direct Mail Systems of Clearwater, Florida received as much as $2 million from the campaigns since 2008.

No Gun Bills This Session

The co-chairmen of a key Connecticut legislative committee say there are no plans to take up numerous gun-related bills filed this session. Representative Stephen Dargan said this week the Public Safety Committee's main concern was to ensure assistance for people who mailed their applications in time to register assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition magazines--- but still missed a January first deadline.

Governor Malloy Urges Roof Clearing

Governor Malloy is urging Connecticut property owners to clear their roofs of the snow that has accumulated this winter to prevent potential collapses.  The governor has directed the state Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security to send memos to all state agencies and municipalities, asking them to assess snow buildup on public buildings.

Chu to Carry U.S. Flag

Four-time Olympian Julie Chu of Fairfield will carry the U.S. flag during the closing ceremony of the Sochi Games. The U.S. Olympic Committee made the announcement a day after Chu earned a silver medal with the U.S. women’s hockey team. Chu has been with Team USA since the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

Federal funding is gone.

Congress has eliminated all funding for public media.
