New York Man Accused of Confronting Sandy Hook Family Seeks Probation

A New York man accused of harassing the family of a school shooting victim is asking to be placed in a pretrial probation program for non-violent offenders.

Matthew Mills of Brooklyn has claimed the 2012 shooting that killed 20 children and six adults at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut never happened.

The 32-year-old man from Brooklyn appeared Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court. He was charged with breach of peace and interfering with police in Stratford November 7 after allegedly approaching the family of Victoria Soto, a first-grade teacher who was killed in the shooting.

Mills was arrested during an annual road race and scholarship fundraiser named for Soto.

A judge ordered Mills to stay away from Soto's family and set a hearing for next month on the bid for pretrial probation.
