Man Dies in Armed Confrontation With Police at Foxwoods

New details about the fatal incident at Foxwoods Resort Casino have been released by state police.

Early reports stated an armed casino patron was shot and killed by a tribal police officer, but later statements said the man died after falling from the fourth floor of a parking garage when shots were fired. 

The shooting happened around 11:30 am on Tuesday in the Fox Tower parking garage at the Mashantucket resort.

State police said there was an outstanding arrest warrant for the patron. 

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police confronted the man in the parking garage, where police said the patron produced a weapon, and shots were fired. 

No other injuries were reported.

The Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting. No other details were immediately released.

Tom Thibeault of Saratoga Springs, New York, was attending a convention at the property with his wife on Tuesday. When sections of the casino went into lockdown, he was outside, while his wife was inside.

"When everything went crazy inside," he said, "they closed the doors, wouldn't let her leave the particular room she was in. She called me, and said there was an emergency, so I came back over here, and obviously, the road was blocked, so I couldn't get in."

Arthur Redding of Hudson, MA was at the same convention and remained inside for several hours during the lockdown. "It's nerve wracking," he said. "We were basically told nothing. We felt safe, but you see this on the news all the time these days. You've got to be careful."

"You had no clue of what was going on outside, so that was kind of scary not knowing," said his wife, Dawna Redding. "They definitely should have said more."
