Gov. Malloy Taps Bridgeport Senator to Run DMV

Governor Dannel Malloy is tapping a Bridgeport state senator as his new commissioner of Connecticut's Department of Motor Vehicles. 

Malloy announced Monday he has chosen fellow Democrat Andres Ayala to succeed the current commissioner, Melody Currey. A former legislator as well, Currey will become the new Department of Administrative Services commissioner in January.

Elected last month to his second term, Malloy has been announcing staff changes for his second administration in recent weeks.

Ayala is serving his first term in the state Senate, representing Bridgeport and Stratford. He's the first Latino to serve in the Senate, and is currently the co-chairman of the Aging and Regulations Review Committees. He won a second term in November.

Ayala previously served as a state representative and Bridgeport Common Council member.
