The UConn women’s basketball team won its 91st consecutive game Saturday, 88-48 over Southern Methodist University. The streak is the longest of all-time in men’s or women’s NCAA basketball, topping its own mark of 90 straight victories from 2008 to 2010.
Geno Auriemma referred to a conversation he had before the game when discussing the streak’s significance “You could always win more national championships, maybe,” said Auriemma on TV channel SNY after the game. “You can always go to more Final Fours, maybe, but an opportunity to do something like this doesn’t come along quite often.”
Saturday’s game was never in doubt, like many of UConn’s 91 wins since it lost last at Stanford in November, 2014. The Huskies were leading 26-2 after the first quarter, which according to ESPN, is the least amount of points they have allowed in any quarter during their latest streak.

That's the fewest points UConn has allowed in any quarter during its 90-game unbeaten streak.
Sophomore guard Katie Lou Samuelson collected a game-high 28 points in Saturday’s mauling of SMU—UConn’s 67th consecutive win against an American Athletic Conference foe since they joined the league back in 2013.
The next landmark to watch for is 100 wins in-a-row. The Huskies would reach that mark on February 13 at home against South Carolina if all goes according to how it has over these last 91 games. The Gamecocks are the fifth-ranked team in the nation. UConn is 8-0 against ranked teams this season.
