Censorship & 'Tiger Moms'

The Town of Enfield seems intent on teaching a living class in First Amendment issues.

Last spring the town wound up in federal court over its plan to hold graduation exercises in a mega-church.

Now Enfield is back in the headlines after the town council majority threatened the town library director with defunding if he went forward with a scheduled showing of the Michael Moore movie "Sicko."

“The sentiment by the majority is that it’s a poor choice and that they should definitely reconsider,” Mayor Scott Kaupin said. “And if they don’t reconsider, then they’re going to have the repercussions of the council.

“I mean, in the end, when budget time comes and Mr. Dutcher [the library director] is asking for funding” for the films, Kaupin said, “he’s going to have to answer for it.”

Wow. They weren't even subtle about it. Censorship is one of the topics for The Nose, our culture panel.
