The Nose: Romantic Comedies & How 'Jerry Seinfeld Intends To Die Standing Up'

http://cptv.vo.llnwd.net/o2/ypmwebcontent/Commodore%20Skahill/Colin%20McEnroe%20Show%2012-28-2012.mp3

A romantic comedy about a substitute teacher recently discharged from a mental hospital after eight months of not necessarily complete treatment for bipolar disorder.  His potential object of affection? A woman whose own experience of psychic trauma has led her into a spree of promiscuous behavior that results in the loss of her job.

That's "The Silver Linings Playbook," a new movie by the gifted director David O. Russell.

It doesn't sound like "Bringing up Baby," but some of the panelists on the Nose today will probably argue for its eventual inclusion of the long list of classic American screwball comedies. Well, I will, anyway.

Also up for discussion today, a recent magazine profile of Jerry Seinfeld as an unusually obsessed practitioner of old school observational comedy, pruning his jokes like carefully snipped bonsai trees.
