Karl Lund's pieces read like panels from a comic book.
Robots, lasers, and giant squid abound in an exhibit at the New Britain Museum of American Art. "Angry Robots Liquefied My Brain" features the narrative paintings of Connecticut-based artist and animator Karl Lund.
With their vibrant colors and science fiction aesthetic, Lund’s pieces read like panels from a comic book. Laser-eyed robots battle snarling sea monsters in scenes that are both whimsical and otherworldly.
In an interview with WNPR’s Where We Live, Lund described the process behind his far-out artwork.
"I start out with a core concept; something that I want to see," said Lund. "For instance, this battle between this strange 'squeel,' which is a cross between a squid and an eel, and this robot. For me, the squid are kind of this complex tangle of tentacles and energy, and the robot is fighting back with lots of lasers, color, and just different things going on in that respect."
