Lewis Black is a funny guy. His expletive-laced RANTS and YELLING about whatever's on his (our) mind lends a rejuvenating catharsis for anyone who's thinking exactly what he's saying.
While he's most famous for his long-running "Back In Black," segment on Comedy Central's The Daily Show, and his 2015 stint as "anger" in the 2015 Disney film "Inside Out," he was a playwright before he transitioned to stand-up. He says:
...working in the theater, you're one step away from being a junkie. Saying that I'm going to work for bubkes so I can play the whatever in 'Miss Julie' and have two lines, down on East Fourth Street, that nobody in their right mind is going to see -- that takes the mentality of an addict. And I was addicted to it. I loved doing it. I loved seeing it."
Yet, it was in theater that he learned he was made to rant. He continues:
...at the West Bank I was working totally in a void. I was just talking and hoping I'd get a laugh. And that evolved into looking at newspaper articles and seeing things that I thought were funny. What was happening, in retrospect, was that I was developing a point of view as a comedian
Finally, a fellow comic told him he was obviously angry, so why not yell? Indeed!
